Araujo is also regarded as a lunar deity of nature, order, and the harvest. > [!Table of Contents]+ > 1. [[#Moon]] > 2. [[#Deity]] # Moon Araujo is the largest and closest-orbiting of [[Mobius]]' moons. It's orbit lies on the same elliptical plane as the strip of [[Mobius]] as it orbits around the combined gravity of [[Mobius]] and [[Naboth]], resulting in it only being visible to the half of [[Mobius]] that is experiencing nighttime and is thus "twisted out" away from [[Naboth]]. Araujo has no atmosphere, and thus no native species nor permanent inhabitants, with the exception of the mostly-[[Laudal]] population that lives within the Lens—a fully enclosed habitat inside a glass dome set within the Turgis crater. The [[Laudal]] that inhabit the Lens left [[Mobius]] during The Undoing, and founded an agrarian utopia on Araujo. On a regular basis, Araujans transport their crops to Mobius aboard their massive silo-ships. ![[farmhouse_ship.jpg|left|150]] A relatively low-density body made up mostly of ice, Araujo is home to several distinctive and unusual features, such as a striking difference in coloration between its leading hemisphere, which is dark, and its trailing hemisphere, which is bright, as well as a massive equatorial ridge running three-quarters of the way around the moon. The low density of Araujo indicates that it is mostly composed of ice, with only a small amount of rocky materials. Araujo is heavily cratered, and features several large impact basins. The largest, Turgis, has a diameter of 360 miles; its rim is extremely steep and includes a scarp about 9.3 miles high. Turgis is clearly visible from the surface of [[Mobius]], and has led to referring to Araujo as the Sky Mother's Eye. # Deity Araujo is the eternal God of Essence and Sky Mother. Her worship originated among the ancient [[Laudal]], but reverence for her has spread to other cultures in modern day. [[Laudal]] traditions say Araujo always existed as an eternal goddess in her own right. She is said to have created the waters, the land and the animals, and thus became "the great princess, the mother of all the animals." Araujo is said to have given the ancient [[Laudal]] laws, ordinances, arts, games, and musical instruments. She settled quarrels between animals, and in the stories giving her decision is embedded an immense amount of natural law. To guide the [[Laudal]], Araujo created nature spirits and separated the physical world from the spiritual world. A mystical forest, [[Mfinda]], runs between the worlds of the [[Mobius System]], where nature spirits and the ancestors can travel from one world to the other and advise the living. Her followers believe that the forests of all worlds are a place where nature spirits and the ancestors roam. The forests of [[Mfinda]] are also said to be the birthplace of the [[Sinding]], who descend from the nature spirits created by Araujo. # Worldbuilding References **Araujo (moon):** [Saturn's third moon, Iapetus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iapetus_%28moon%29) **Araujo (deity):** [Kongo deity Nzambici](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nzambici)
