# Moon
Palis is a mortuary moon where large areas of the moon's surface have been given over to care for the remains of the honored dead of the [[Mobius System]]. They are administered by the Ecclesiarchy, an order of monks who oversee the moon, assisted by mortuary [[Bott]]. The Ecclesiarchy was founded by the small group of original [[Krogh]] settlers of Palis, who constructed [[Bott]] to assist them in founding their settlement on Palis. It remains majority-[[Krogh]] and [[Bott]], but has become somewhat more diverse over the centuries, attracting members from nearly all Mobian cultures.
Tech Paluin (the "House of Palis") is the capital city of Palis, and is staffed only by the Ecclesiarchy priests and administrators needed to maintain the funerary monuments and bury the newly-arrived dead within the vast necroplex which extends across the moon.
Palis' surface is a vision of metallic towers, steeples and spires. Stained-glass and metal, dark with age, thrust forth towards the heavens with reverent majesty. With nearly every square meter of dirt on Palis devoted to the dead, the capital of Tech Paluin is quite small, consisting of basilicas and cathedrals that are built tall and tight.
# Deity
Palis ("the dark one," from Proto-Krogh: *Palusnos*) is a goddess of the dead, said to dwell in Tech Paluin (the "house of Palis" or "house of the dark one") where the souls of the dead gather on their way to either the [[Underworld]] or the [[Overworld]].
Palis was an ancient [[Krogh]] chieftain who was born on [[Mobius]]. During The Undoing, she became a military general, leading the [[Krogh]] in battle to defend their homelands. After a series of bitter defeats, the [[Krogh]] elders made the decision to flee [[Mobius]] and resettle on one of its moons. As the [[Krogh]] fleet was preparing to launch, they were ambushed by the army of the Vogue Alliance. Palis rallied the [[Krogh]] to defend their ships, in a desperate bid to allow some of them to launch in time. The majority of the [[Krogh]] fleet was destroyed, but a few ships escaped, and Palis' corpse was dragged aboard the final ship that escaped the surface.
An ancient [[Krogh]] poem says that Palis' dying wish was that all her people would gather at Palis' house, or "Tech Paluin" after death: "To me, to my house, you shall all come after your deaths." Her corpse was taken and buried with honor on the new [[Krogh]] home world--the sixth moon of [[Mobius]], which they named Palis in her honor. Built on a hill in the center of Tech Paluin is the Holy Basilica of Noc Firne ("the hill of truth," from Proto-Krogh: *Cnoc Fírinne*), where the remains of Palis are interred.
Because [[Olearius]] is traditionally regarded as the "true" goddess of death, Palis is sometimes considered to be more accurately considered a goddess of the transition between life and death.
